Kindergarten Hebrew Judaics

Dear Kindergarten Families הורים יקרים, This week we got ready to celebrate Purim! In Judaics we went deeper into the Purim story and practiced telling it ourselves so that we could write our own megillot on paper towel scrolls. We learned about the special mitzvot of Purim: Hear the Megillah, distribute Mishloach Manot packages of food, donate/volunteer for Matanot L’evyonim to the less fortunate, and have a Purim feast/Seudah. We played a drawing game where we guessed which costumes we might wear during our whole school celebration. It was so exciting to see everyone all dressed up yesterday! We had...

Purim and Kindness Week

Community Building This week we have been focusing on kindness- how we can spread kindness at home, in school, and the greater community. Maya attempts many times throughout the story to befriend Chloe, but Chloe continues to choose to be unkind. As we discussed how we thought the story would end most students predicted “They will make up and become friends”. However, the story closes with...

For example, we identified over a dozen different literary terms in the story – including foreshadowing, dialect, flashbacks, and symbolism. We also further explored the racial divide in the Jim Crow era South by taking an old Louisiana voter Literacy test — a test that many African Americans were forced to take and...
