A new baby sister, covers for our information books, counting by two’s and fives, studying maps, and sending cars down ramps made from one, two or three blocks give you just a taste of the excitement this week in the Kindergarten General Studies Room. Naomi welcomed her new baby sister Alona and shared pictures and information with the rest of the class who listened attentively. We started learning about Pesach this week! First we made a chart of all the things we already know. It was a long list! Then we talked about the word seder/סדר and that it means order. The Pesach seder is a time when we follow the directions and tell the story of the Jewish people’s freedom from slavery while leaving Egypt. It was a wonderful week in Kindergarten, highlighted by a full day of activities on Purim.  We heard the Purim story, participated in a parade, went to a carnival, decorated and exchanged bags with our buddies, and heard about a sixth grade service project. Dear Kindergarten Families הורים יקרים, This week we got ready to celebrate Purim! In Judaics we went deeper into the Purim story and practiced telling it ourselves so that we could write our own megillot on paper towel scrolls. We learned about the special mitzvot of Purim: Hear the Megillah, distribute Mishloach Manot packages of food, donate/volunteer for Matanot L’evyonim to the less fortunate, and have a Purim feast/Seudah. We are so excited that Liz is returning on Monday! This week’s writing was letters welcoming her back and telling her about what we have been learning since she was gone. In math we continued our study of shapes, looking at the squares, triangles, rectangles, and circles that you can make when you trace the faces of cubes, rectangles, pyramids, and cylinders. Next week we will add hexagons to the shapes we are working with. Happy 100th Day of School!  We celebrated by rotating through five activities including 100 Lego, 100 Cheerios necklaces,100 Things We Love About School, and some time in the gym.  A good time was had by all! In Social Studies we read a book about having brothers and sisters.  Children shared what is both fun and challenging about being a sibling. We also read a book about a child who has two homes. הורים יקרים, We had an exciting last week before February break!   Today we celebrated the 100th day of school! Your children have been working hard, learning lots, and having plenty of fun.   In Hebrew we continued exploring ways to describe how we feel. We made books about our emotions and shared them during our morning meeting.   In Judaics we learned how rainbows are made of light and color. This week was another busy one in Kindergarten. In Writer’s Workshop we began learning about informational books by reading books about penguins, animal feet, and germs. We then thought about topics that kindergartners themselves know a lot about. Topics included Lego, ballet, video games, scooters, iPads, cats, candy, toys, insects, Fortnight, and F 5 cars.  The latter two are things the teachers will learn a lot about from the books students write over the next few weeks! Dear Kindergarten Families הורים יקרים, This week in Hebrew we continued learning about clothing. We collaged on paper with fabric and other scraps then cut the paper into clothing. We’re getting better at recognizing descriptions of our clothes and describing others, an important social step in recognizing and describing our peers. Next week we’ll be moving on to winter gear and things we need to keep warm. Vocabulary at the bottom of this post. Hello Families, It was another busy week in General Studies Kindergarten.  We started the week with the exciting news that Liz had had her baby and immediately started making a baby quilt for her.  Each child drew a square with a picture of a grown up animal and a baby animal.
