Dear Families, We have launched our new writing unit “Show and Tell” and are busy writing about things we really care about, including our stuffed animals from home.  We are working extra hard on looking closely to add details, writing more on the page, and hearing more sounds as we spell.  We will soon move into writing pattern books! In math, we continued to explore counting strategies as we count bigger groups of objects.  We also are comparing and ordering numbers using less than, greater than, and equal.  Our new favorite card game is “top it!” We have enjoyed working...

Dear Families, This week has been a flurry of activity as we prepare for our very first publishing party!  We learned that when we publish a book, we are deciding to share our story with the world and we need to “fancy up” our books! So we colored and created a cover, title, and all about the author page.  We also have gone back to our books to make sure that they have details, settings, labels and have a beginning middle and end.  Lastly, we practiced reading our stories with gusto.  We even got to read them to our first...

They love this! Hello Families, This week we have been writing, writing, writing!  We started by labeling parts of the room so we know where to put and find things.  We practiced stretching out our words slowly to hear all the sounds to know which letters to write. Someone even labeled the teacher area (spelled “ter ar”). We also learned our first 3 snap words “I“, “like“, and “my“.  We learned these are specials words we see all the time that follow different sound rules (also known as high frequency or sight words). They also help kindergarteners become faster readers.  We practiced putting...

Hello Families, We had a wonderful time on our first field trip to the Botanical Gardens!  The blue and yellow groups got to know new friends in the other class through their partners and small groups.  We examined fuzzy, fragrant, edible, and colorful plants. We also sketched and noticed shapes and seasonal changes in the garden around us.  The pictures below speak for themselves! Now that we are heading back into full weeks and days after the holidays, kindergarten is shifting focus. Thus far, we have been learning how to be in school while building community, and how to take...

Dear Kindergarten Parents הורים יקרים, It was great to have you all in our Sukkah for breakfast yesterday. This week was a very busy week in our classroom, as we learn about Sukkot. The students made a long paper chain to decorate our Sukkah that we built in class. Each student made their own lulav, etrog, hadas, and arava. In addition, they learned the bracha for the lulav. Today, the kids met with the eighth graders in the Sukkah, and together, they built a candy Sukkah. They learned the song “Patish Masmer” and “Sukati HaSukkah.” Hebrew Vocabulary: Patish...

Hello Families, Kindergarteners have been exploring how each of us is unique and discovering our special qualities.  After reading “We are different, we are the same” we explored our faces and the shapes of each feature.  We also compared similarities and differences between faces.  Using mirrors, we sketched out our faces using shapes, traced in sharpie, colored in crayon, and finished with a watercolor resist.  We studied the 3 colors in our skin and how to mix colors! As a part of learning our letters, we talked about why “A” (Aviv and Asher) is special.  We explored how it’s a...
