Hello Families, It was another busy week in General Studies Kindergarten. We started the week with the exciting news that Liz had had her baby and immediately started making a baby quilt for her. Each child drew a square with a picture of a grown up animal and a baby animal. With the winter weather that is predicted for the weekend, I should be able to get it put together! Community Building With the new year underway, we have been working on building our community and embracing our fresh groups. We started discussing about the different ways that we speak to each other, and how it can make the other person in the conversation feel. We learned about three different ways we can speak: aggressively, passively, or assertively. Second graders brainstormed what these three ways of speaking would look and sound like. Kindergarten Hebrew Studies

Hello 4th Grade Families!
General Studies with Mike: Congratulations to all fourth graders on a fantastic Martin Luther King presentation! We are at the midpoint of our math unit on fractions, and students have now learned how to add and subtract fractions and convert mixed number fractions to improper fractions (and vice versa). Students have enjoyed working with fraction tiles to represent equivalent fractions with differing values in the denominator. First Grade News
In preparation for this week’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Tekes, first graders have been learning all about the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. We had many discussions about segregation, boycotts, strikes, and what life was like during the Civil Rights movement. They learned that he was a citizen, just like us, who noticed something in his world wasn’t right and he worked his whole life to change it. HUMANITIES It was a pleasure to experience several special programs this past week in Humanities, including a special workshop on The Giver and a visit to the United Nations Headquarters. Mara Stephens, otherwise known as “Vera’s mom,” came in on Tuesday for an interactive program related to Lois Lowry’s The Giver. Mara actually used to performed her own one-woman show about this book, and we were so lucky that she was able to share some of her performance with us. Humanities In ELA, students have been working diligently on a theme project for Beowulf: A New Telling. Students needed to identify a theme and then find three passages in the book that demonstrate that theme!
