Kindergarten Hebrew / Judaics

Dear Kindergarten Families הורים יקרים,

This week in Hebrew we continued learning about clothing. We collaged on paper with fabric and other scraps then cut the paper into clothing. We’re getting better at recognizing descriptions of our clothes and describing others, an important social step in recognizing and describing our peers. Next week we’ll be moving on to winter gear and things we need to keep warm. Vocabulary at the bottom of this post.

In Judaics we began the story of Noah and the flood and learned a song (lyrics below). Here’s the story if you want to review it with your child.

God noticed that the people of the world were not making good choices. God told Noah there was going to be a flood and helped him prepare to protect his family by building an ark. Noah had instructions from God to take two of every animal and put them on the ark. If the animals were kosher, Noah would take seven instead of two. Noah, his wife, their three sons, and their three wives all boarded the ark. Then the rain began to fall. It rained for 40 days and 40 nights. The waters were so high that they covered even the tippy tops of the mountains. Then, God remembered Noah and his family. The rain slowed down and stopped. The water started to go down, and the ark got stuck on top of a mountain. Noah sent out a raven to see if the land was ready for people again. The raven did not come back. Noah sent out a dove and the dove came back with an olive branch in her beak to show that the land was ready for people again. Noah and his family opened the doors to the ark, let out the animals, and made gifts for God because he protected them. God realized that it is hard for people to make good choices all the time. It’s hard to always do the right thing. God made a rainbow in the sky and made a promise to Noah: If you always try your best to make good choices and do the right thing, I promise to help you make good choices and I won’t send another flood. When we see a rainbow in the sky it reminds us of God’s promise to Noah.

Lyrics, “Noah, Oh Noah”:
Noah, oh Noah
Lots of rain’s on its way
Gonna rain and pour
40 nights 40 days
Noah oh Noah
You must hammer all day long
You must build an ark
Make it big, make it strong.
