First Grade News

Dear Families, It was so lovely to get to welcome you all into our building to celebrate our first grader’s learning so far this year. It was truly wonderful to walk around the room and get to greet you all and express how proud we are of them—better yet, we got to see how proud they are of themselves as they presented their portfolios. In case you missed it, photos from the event can be found in this album: Shabbat Shalom, Talia, Ilana, Liz, and Noa

December 17, 2021 — HAPPY NEW YEAR!

S.T.E.A.M. with Sammi I missed the last blog post, so here comes a big catch up! For a few classes, the 4th graders put their science work aside to focus on technology. Students worked through “The Google Slide Challenge” which involved learning and practicing 35 different Google Slide skills. They then put these skills to use in Hilary’s class to make the marvelous presentations you saw at the publishing party. Over the last three weeks, we have now gotten back into our “Scientific Community” unit where students work in teams to complete challenges. First, students built towers with spaghetti and...

K Blog 12/17

Dear Kindergarten Families,   This week, we learned a new song, This Little Light of Mine, started a brand-new unit in Science, and (perhaps the most exciting activity this week) labeled the classroom!     In Phonics there was great excitement as we worked to label all the various parts of the classroom.  With a partner students listened for the beginning, middle and ending sounds of things like the pencils, erasers, dinosaurs, shelves, tape, desks, and much much more.  They then recorded the letters on an index card and taped the cards around the room.    In Social Studies we had...

3rd Grade: 12/17

Thank you so much for coming to our 3rd Grade Celebration! The students had a great time sharing their work in all subjects and are proud of the work they accomplished. Reading: Whodunit?! In reading, we have been exploring mysteries. As a class we read A to Z Mysteries: The Absent Author. We jotted down clues and suspects, thought about motives and opportunities, looked at different ways of organizing the information we collected (in a timeline, by main idea, or by chapter), and retold the main parts of the story. In the end, we were all very surprised at the outcome!...

The last blog for 2021

Welcome to the last blog for 2021! We hope everyone has an amazing break and we look forward to seeing you in 2022! In SEL, social emotional learning, the students have been learning many skills. Through the past few weeks they focused on a few specific lessons. The first was how to have a constructive conversation about how to agree and respectfully disagree with one another. The students brainstormed wonderful ways where they can validate hearing others and then responding to them with kind language. Some prompts that came up were: I agree because _______ I disagree because _______ Ask...

December 17: Holidays and Events

Humanities  We are beyond thrilled that so many of you were able to join us for our Conference on Civilizations. The 5th graders were so excited to share their hard work with you. To finish up this semester, we will learn about the other civilizations in Mesopotamia before moving into Ancient Egypt after the New Year. We will also complete our Memoir project including several writing pieces and a visual representation of who we are. Finally, we will begin some learning about neurodiversity and people with disabilities in preparation for book clubs. A few fun notes from our semester together:...

HUMANITIES 7th graders have been working hard on drafting, editing, revising, and re-editing their literary analysis essays of the book, Chains. Students have embraced the writing process; they should be proud of the work they’ve put into their essays. Students have also created graphics demonstrating their understanding of the Triangular Trade, the economic exchange of goods and people between continents during the time of the Atlantic Slave Trade. We are finishing the semester with analysis of the Salem Witch Trials, focusing on why and how they happened and how the events in seventeenth century Massachusetts relate to our lives today. Enjoy...
