HUMANITIES 7th graders have wrapped up our unit on short stories by reading and reflecting on the collection of short stories entitled Flying Lessons as well as creating short stories of their own. We started by outlining stories around real events that happened in our lives and subsequently fictionalized some, none, or all of the details in the stories. Ask the 7th graders to share their completed stories with you! In social studies, we have started preparing for our Boston Massacre mock trial. There are eight teams preparing to either defend or prosecute the soldiers or captain involved in the...

First Grade News

Hello Families, In Hebrew, we spent time learning about clothing and what we wear. We learned the verbs lovesh (to wear, masculine) and loveshet (to wear, feminine). We also learned how to write the letters chaf, kaf, final chaf, pey and fey in script. In Yahadut, we started to learn about Purim. We read the story of Purim and got to look at a very small megilah that belongs to the first grade. We spoke about all the things that we do to celebrate Purim – giving Mishloach Manot, gifts to the poor, reading the megilah, and of course, having fun and eating! We are looking forward...

March 3, 2023 — March Comes in Like a Lion …

Humanities with Hilary Dear 4th Grade Families, It’s hard to believe that it is already March — this winter has just flown by! This week, not only did we get new lunch spots and learn who would be in our new half groups, but a new student also joined our community! We welcomed Adele to our class on Thursday. Sammi and I led the class in some name games, reminiscent of games you play at camp, where you do a movement to go with your name. We also played the “Me Too” game, where a person makes a statement (such...

3rd Blog – 3/3

Welcome back! We hope you all had an enjoyable break. This week we started all new units! In reading and writing, we started with biographies. We learned that biographies are stories about real people. As such, we can read biographies using skills we learned while reading fiction stories. First, we read about a person to determine what kind of person they were. Some examples are: Raye didn’t give up because when someone told her only white men can work here, she learned about it anyway, Trudy is determined, modest, and courageous because Trudy did something that only 5 men had...

Kindergarten Blog 3/3

Dear Kindergarten Families, It was so wonderful to welcome back the Kindergartners into their new groups, as well as welcome to our class two new students: Michael and Lenny. We have been having conversations about friendship and being part of a classroom community as students adjust to the change. So far the children have been excited by the return to school and their new groups! And of course, Wednesday was our 100th day of school celebration! Kindergartners practiced counting to 100 by ones and tens, colored in snap words that filled up bubble letters of the number 100, and enjoyed...

March 3: 5th Grade Updates

Hi parents! We had our first visit to BAC this week. 5A spent an hour with our buddies at BAC and had a fantastic time touring the school, doing a get-to-know-you craft, and playing together in the gym. Our 5th graders showed such wonderful maturity and compassion while spending time with the young students at BAC. We can’t wait for 5B to visit the week following Purim! Thank you to the many parents who volunteered to join our field trip to BAC! Sarah or Katie will reach out if you are needed for one of the trips. We unfortunately can’t accommodate...
