First Grade News

Hello Families, This week in the Hebrew classroom, we continued to travel through the state of Israel. We visited the busy streets of Tel Aviv and then went down to Yam hamelach (the dead sea). The first graders were so excited to start to prepare for our Siddur Ceremony which we will celebrate on Tuesday May 23th at 9am. We also had lots of fun celebrating Yom Hahatzmaut together. In Math, students are practicing how to tell time on both digital and analog clocks! Students learned about the parts of analog clocks and how to read them. STEAM with Sammi Working through all the steps of the scientific method in depth is a long and hard process! In Reading we continue to practice reading and writing CVC words using several different vowels. Children continue to make good progress reading the books...

In this writing unit we examine a specific style of poetry and then create our own poems based on that style. We’ve written one in the style of William Carlos Williams, a poem showing personification, an acrostic, a poem using our five senses, a concrete, a poem about ourselves using similes, and a poem about immigration. At the end of the unit, students will choose 3 poems to publish! We also began our final read aloud, Save Me a Seat. This...

Exploring Akko

The 8th grade started off the day with our last meal at the hotel. After a nice breakfast and Tifilah in the amphitheater, we gathered our bags and loaded the bus. We arrived at a super cool international school that hosts high schoolers from Israel, Palestine, and tons of other places all round the world! A few teachers led an activity where they asked the 8th grade to create a way to educate the students about the situation in Israel. Each group discussed their plans and predicted challenges. Later on students from the school came in and talked to Gesher...
