Growing Crystals, and Charades!

Hebrew Charades Every week in Hebrew we practice reading new vocabulary words from the board together. After, we reinforce the meaning of the words with a game of charades, before recording the words in our notebooks. Dear Third Grade Families, Can you believe it’s already the middle of December? How fast this year has sped by! In Social Studies, we began thinking about how life changed for native tribes when Europeans came over. We discussed what life was like in Europe at that time, and how important Christianity was to them. We also talked about why the Europeans were so interested in exploring North America. 6th Grade News: 12/4 – 12/8/17

SCIENCE This week in Science, students used simulation software to breed mice. This allowed them to continue their studies of genetics by discovering the fur color of mice offspring. Advisory:  Dear parents, This week in advisory we did a short meditation about dealing with anger. Next, the students will put on short skits about social situations in middle school. Dec 4 – Dec 8

Hebrew This week the seventh graders wrote conversations and later on filmed them. The conversations were written based on “life situations” that were assigned to them using vocabulary from our unit. A situation for example: “You have tickets to a concert you are unable to attend, you need to try to sell the tickets to your friend convince them the band is worth going to see”. The students wrote creative conversations memorized them and filmed them. 5th Grade Week of 12/4

HUMANITIES: What a week! We are making amazing progress with our India Pavilion Projects. We are researching, writing, and creating our final products. We can’t wait to blow everyone away on Jan. 9th! We also are continuing our study of Homeless Bird. We are having robust discussions on topics ranging from character traits to symbolism to Indian marriage customs. Students are incredibly enthusiastic about this text, and are making amazing progress with their reading comprehension. First Grade News: Week of December 4th

First graders had an awesome publishing party! They rehearsed their song and presentation all week and did a great job in their performance. The students worked so hard on their opinion writing about their favorite spot in the neighborhood and they were proud to share them!   In math, first graders continued learning about plane shapes and solid shapes. They used plane shapes to make their own designs of snowflakes. Their projects are hanging up outside of our classroom. Almost Chanukah!

Hello Fourth Grade Families! We are fast approaching Winter Vacation, which means that first we get to celebrate Chanukah together! Students have been working hard on the Lower School Hebrew Play, coming up Monday, December 18. We hope that we’ll see you there! We are also excited about the upcoming fourth grade trip to Fraunces’ Tavern in Manhattan, where George Washington once stayed and gave an address. Jewish Museum, Publishing Party and more!

Dear Kindergarten Families, We had a great week in Kindergarten.  We were preparing for our Publishing Party and practicing our song and dance for the Hanukkah Play! On Thursday, we had a great time at the Jewish Children’s Museum in Brooklyn. The children went to a Kosher Supermarket, visited Creation Exhibit, looked for oil in the Hanukkah exhibit, walked “on Shabbat Table,” made oil out of real olives and lit the menorah with it.
