Weeks 20 and 21: Monday, January 21st – Friday, February 1st

Hebrew  Dear parents, This week the students are watching an Israeli movie named “Apples From the Desert”. the movie is based on a short story by Savion Liebrecht. While watching the movies, the students learn new vocabulary, discuss dilemmas and conflicts that the characters deal with in the movie. After watching the movies, the students will be able to read the story and lead class discussions on the differences between the movie and the story. Hebrew Dear parents, Last week the students finished presenting their verbal projects describing a place of their choice a hundred years ago vs. nowadays. All the students put a lot of effort into their presentations and did a wonderful job! This week, we started a new unit on “Weather and Mood”. Hebrew These past weeks, the students have been working on preparing presentations comparing the past and present of a place of their choice. The main goal of the activity is to offer the students an opportunity to give a presentation in Hebrew, without reading. Weeks 7 and 8: Monday, October 15th – Friday, October 26th

Hebrew This week the students took the Avant Hebrew Assessment. Avant is an online proficiency-based assessment which looks into all 4 skills: reading writing listening and speaking. The assessment allows us to track students’ ability to function in Hebrew. This is an accumulative knowledge test, therefore, students did not need to prepare for it.  The results will not affect students’ grades but will provide precious information. Weeks 5 and 6: Monday, October 1st – Friday, October 12th

Hebrew Dear Parents, This week the students focused on using all the vocabulary we learned in the unit on the five senses in order to describe various experiences during the holidays and in everyday life. We ended the week with a test on the unit. Next week the students will take the vocabulary and structures and use it verbally in order to interview each other on a memorable day through the things they smelled, tasted, saw, heard and touched. Hebrew Dear Parents, These few days students continued to explore describing things in their world through their senses. Students watched an Israeli TV program about the 5 senses, practiced having conversations in the Shuk describing what they see, hear, smell, taste, and touch. Students also wrote and acted out short skits using the new vocabulary, using both present and past tense. Hebrew Dear Parents, Welcome to an exciting year! The 8th grade started the year by discussing the five senses and the ways in which we can use them to describe our memories and experiences. This year the focus is on conversational Hebrew. The students started each class by practicing for 15 minutes in Hebrew how to introduce themselves to a new person.
