Hi everyone! Can you believe it is already the middle of October? The month is flying by with the holidays and the kids have become more settled into our daily schedules. We are busy, busy, busy and learning a lot!

Reading: Our readers learned how to scoop phrases in order to read more fluently, as if we are speaking. They practiced reading aloud so we could hear the breaks or pauses within the sentences. At home, be sure to ask your child to read in a storytelling voice where they capture the essence of the story while scooping phrases together.

Writing: The second grade writers have been writing narratives from their seed ideas. They have been busy adding lots of details and bringing their stories to life with character actions, dialogue and thoughts. Now we are in our final stages of publishing with revision and editing.

Math: In math, the students have been learning about regrouping with addition into the hundreds. At home, have your child write a few math problems where they can show you how they regroup.

Hebrew/Judaics: Last week we celebrated Simchat Torah learning about the difference between the Sepharadic and Ashkenazi Seder Tora, dancing and celebrating the holiday where we finish reading the Torah and starting over again. We emphasize how the הקפות dancing in circles emphasis the meaning of the Holiday. We start writing sentences in Hebrew about the holiday incorporating verbs and Prepositions.
