Kindergarten Blog 2/11/21

Dear Families,

This week, students delved deeper into teen numbers. Students made observations and shared with their classmates. Some examples of their observations are: All teen numbers begin with a 1; they go in the same order as single digit numbers; 11 and 12 don’t have a “teen” in their name; Teenagers are kids whose ages are teen numbers. These kinds of observations help build confidence around bigger numbers, and help us count and add quickly! We are also practicing beading — you may have noticed students coming home with a bracelet or two! In this activity, we are building our grip strength, and practicing our counting as we do it!

In Hebrew/Judaic Studies, we started talking about Purim-vocabulary: king, queen palace. We also learned the song “Laytzan Kayan sheli.” On Friday, we talked about the portion of the week, and celebrated Kabbalat Shabbat.

Children finished their Show and Tell books about favorite meals, adding more and more labels and sentences as they become Brave Spellers who sound out and then record the sounds they hear. Students made fancy collage covers for their books.

An update on our Food Collection: Over 25 Kindergarten families contributed to the food collection for the Community Fridges! Students tallied what they collected, and families are starting to deliver the items to two local Community Fridges. Thanks to all who participated!

Shabbat Shalom,

We started thinking about Purim this week, and getting excited for our upcoming Purim celebration in school. We talked about the story of Purim, and the ways we’ve celebrated in the past, including baking and eating Hamentashen. We also decorated graggers to use in our school celebration. These will come home with us after our in-school celebration in two weeks. We can’t wait!
