First Grade News

Hello Families,

In Hebrew this week, we learned the letters tzadik and tzadik sofit and we kept practicing our reading and writing. We read the book “Maddi’s Fridge” and had a conversation about the importance of helping other people in need.

In Tefilah, we continued working on our siddurim and learned a new prayer from the amida called mevarech hashanim. We spoke about the importance of taking care of our Earth and what can we do to keep it a clean and safe place.

In Parasha we learned about Parashat Bo, which is when Pharaoh tells the Israelites to leave Egypt and they pack up quickly and go. We spoke about how God told Moses and Aaron to tell the Jewish people to celebrate Passover since God passes all the Jewish homes at the tenth plague.

This week in science we used the scientific method to observe what would happen to a skittle in warm water! We created hypothesizes and used our Petri dishes to watch our experiment.

In SEL we read a book called Giraffes Can’t Dance and talked about what it means to practice our skills and hobbies regardless of what people might say about it.

As we adjusted to being back in school, we started our new guided reading groups and practiced working independently in ELA centers.  1st graders solved their own problems or helped their neighbors or friends when they became stuck or had a question about their centers. We also started to manage our own time and began to discuss “what does my best work look like?

Shabbat Shalom,

The First Grade Team
