Hebrew

This week, the students practiced writing a flowing paragraph in Hebrew by writing a paragraph in the future tense about what they will do when they reach their special place one day.
Next, the students started their prep unit for the Israel trip. Feel free to ask them to teach you all the new words, expressions and songs they learn in class!
I wish everyone a nice weekend,

Humanities

Literature and Writing:

This week, students started their genre study unit.  In groups, they will study a genre of their choice in literature.  They will read a book of their choice from that genre in a book club and analyze it for clues as to what their genre is all about.  Then, they will create a short piece of creative writing in the style of their genre and give a presentation to their peers explaining the important features of their genre.

History:

This week students completed their study of important Supreme Court cases and the Bill of Rights.  Next week, study will learn about Westward Expansion and the presidency of Andrew Jackson.

Have a good weekend,

Michael

Judaic Studies

It was wonderful speaking with many of you yesterday!

The 8th graders have begun learning a new story in Sefer Shoftim/the book of Judges. In the story of Yiftach, we find echoes of the Torah, as we read about hatred and jealousy between brothers. How do Yiftach’s experiences form him? Why does he become the example of Moshe’s greatest fear for Bnai Yisrael come true?

Shabbat shalom,

Jessica

Math

Science

This week in science students made pendulums in order to play a science game. They connected tennis balls to string and attached them to the suspended lights. Then they had to pull and release the balls in order to move a cup across the table but without knocking it off. This allowed them to figure the amount of energy they needed to apply in order to complete the task. Next week we will continue with our physics discoveries with the investigation of acceleration.
