Kindergarten Blog 10/30/20

Dear Families,

Kindergartners had the opportunity to read their information books to people including Nicole, Shelley, and Carolyn this week.  They then shared our Rockstar Museums, which include information About the Authors. We are beginning to introduce Snap Words (I, a , the, and like) which are words that appear frequently in reading and writing so it is helpful to know them in a “snap.”

We talked about the upcoming election and voting.  Kindergartners will have their own opportunity to vote on the question: “Should we change the Choice materials in November?”  We talked about the advantages and disadvantages of changing the choice activities and children made signs to try to convince their classmates to vote Yes or No on this important question.  The vote will be by secret ballot on Monday!
Kindergarteners are practicing count arounds! This is a game where we stand in a circle, and take turns saying one number at a time, trying to count as high as we can, as a group! We are also learning about the hundreds chart. Students are noticing number patterns on the chart, and sharing them with classmates (for example, in one column every number ends in a 9!). Kindergarteners also completed number puzzles this week, using the hundreds chart to help fill in missing parts of a number line!
Kindergarteners are becoming experts at the morning routine in Hebrew! Students are leading attendance, and greeting each other, all in Hebrew! We have started asking how kids are feeling in the morning, and they are learning how to respond. We are learning numbers 1-10. We are beginning to learn parts of the body, and play games using our vocabulary.
In Judaics, we are practicing teffilot. Kids are now familiar with Modeh Ani, Ma Tovu, and Shema. The parashat ha shavua this week is Lech L’cha, which is about Avraham leaving his birthplace, land, and his father’s house. Kids are discussing how they would feel if they experienced the same things as Avraham.

Shabbat Shalom,

Dawn, Talia,  Anat, and Atalya
