Kindergarten blog 10/2/20

Dear Kindergarten Families,

Shana Tova and Happy October!

This week, kindergarteners learned about Sukkot. We are also beginning to study Shabbat, learning about candles and the weekly parasha.

We are continuing to add on phrases in Hebrew, about things we do in the classroom. We are strengthening our morning routine, talking about weather, days of the week, and colors— all in Hebrew! We are also learning to describe the colors we are wearing.

Kindergarteners are studying each other’s names! We are noticing how many letters a name has, what the letters look like, and how many syllables (beats) are in a name. This week’s letters were T and S!

We are continuing to read and write information books and are doing more and more labeling of the pictures in our books. We also read and acted out a book called Mrs. Wishy Washy and will soon be bringing home copy to read to you.

Kindergarteners are continuing to study our calendar, and are becoming experts at tally marks! We are also learning about our classroom community. Kids are thinking deeply about how to treat each other and what makes a good learning environment.

We have voted on animal names for our pods! Pod A is now the Lions, Pod B is the Starfish, and Pod C is the Doves!

Check out photos from the week below!

Shabbat Shalom,

Talia, Dawn, and Anat

Mask information:

Please remember to send your student with a few extra masks, in case they need to change them. Masks should be tight enough that they don’t slip down.

Questions to ask at home:

  • What is a lulav ? What is an etrog? What are the four species?
  • How do you shake a lulav?
  • What sound does the letter T make? What words begin with T?
  • How do you make tally marks? What’s special about 5?
