First Grade News

Dear Families,

In Hebrew, we learned the words aroch (long), katzar (short), Katan (small) and Gadol (Big)and learned how to use those words when speaking and writing. The students also wrote about their hair and the color of their eyes using aroch, katzar, yesh li (I have) and ein li (I don’t have). We had a party in class to celebrate our accomplishments – finishing learning the Hebrew alef-bet and our nitzanim workbooks. I encourage you to look through your child’s workbook to see the amazing work that he/she has done!

In Tefilah, we learned a new prayer from the Amidah called mishan umivtach latzadikim. We spoke about what it means to be a righteous person. We also share about the good things that happened to us when we are doing good things.

In Parasha, we learned about Parashat Mishpatim. We spoke about the additional laws that God gave the Jewish people. We also spoke about what it means to be responsible. We thought about things that we are responsible for at school and at home.

Shabbat Shalom,

Ilana, Liz, and Talia

In Music class, First Graders read and sang the song “Snow,” noticing it was in 2/4. Then they learned about songs in 3/4. We also talked about lunar calendars (Jewish, Chinese, Persian, etc.) and the upcoming Lunar New Year on February 1st. Then they sang the song “Arirang,” a very famous Korean folk song, often sung at major holidays and events.
