What a week! We hope you had a restful break, and that you enjoy the updates from this week! Happy Purim!

HUMANITIES: It was a busy week coming back from break! In Humanities, we planned and began writing opinion essays on Tuck Everlasting. In Social Studies, we presented our Dynasty Projects from before break, and explored the history and impact of the Silk Road. I hope everyone had a fun Purim!-Tony

JUDAICS: This week was so much fun with Purim! We learned the text that we used during the Megillah reading at school. Students helped their buddy’s follow along during the reading, showing them their fun illustrations that went along with the text. They were also so welcoming to their new student teacher Dammara! They learned their first lesson with Dammara about inter textual connections between Joseph and Esther. We saw that they were both referred to as beautiful as well as many other connections that helped us reflect further about each story. -Shabbat Shalom Laura and Dammara

MATHI hope everyone had a wonderful February break! 5th graders finished learning “Multiply and Divide Fractions” and will be taking the unit test test on Monday and Tuesday, March 5th-6th. Starting next week, they will begin learning a new unit, “Perimeter, Area and Surface Area.” In this unit they will learn to find the area of a figure in square units, the area of a composite figure, the perimeter, and the surface area.-Kelly

SCIENCE: Students continued their exploration of “Little Bits” this week. They created a bubble maker machine then worked on their own custom devices. There were no instructions, just use the “Little Bits” that have been exploring the last few weeks. What came out of these groups were amazing devices that were functional and artist! This could not be accomplished, if they have not mastered engineering techniques and positive collaborative group work! I am proud of their accomplishments and await the magic that will happening next week in science!-Mike
ADVISORY: In Advisory this week, we had insightful and thoughtful discussions about the students’ understanding of protocols following the recent tragedy in Florida, as well as their current feelings and how they are processing all the information coming their way. The students yet again showed their maturity and wisdom as they shared their thoughts on this vast and complicated issue.

HEBREW:

J group
This week in class students strengthened the use of an infinitive.
They wrote short sentences and in addition learned how to use a verb + infinitive in one sentence.
K group
This week the students read the story about Rabbi Akiva’s life before he became one of the greatest Jewish scholars in Jewish history. They analyzed the text and had a reading comprehension activity on the material.
In addition, both groups had a fun activity with the Shinishinm. hey learned about big parades that happen in Israel on Purim and about a very special one that takes place in Sde Boker the Kibbutz that Ben Gurion helped established in the Negev.-Yehuda
