Week 27: Monday, March 19th – Friday, March 23rd
Advisory
The advisory team and Jen lead a session on factual communication. We discussed various ways in which people communicate when they have a difference of opinion, and we discussed Emotional communication vs. Factual communication. In Emotional communication, the interaction is based on feelings, vs. in Factual communication, where the conversation is based on facts and does not contain any personal remarks.
We would like to encourage you to continue this conversation at home with the children.
Hebrew
This week the 8th grade use a variety of techniques in order to practice conversations in Israel.
Here is a sneak peek of our “speed dating” activity:

Humanities
Reading and Writing: This week, students continued their work on the genre projects. They will complete their genre projects next week as we head into the Passover Break.
History: This week, students learned about how the political disagreements of Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson led to the formation of the first political parties. Next week, students will use their History class time to prepare for the Israel Trip Blog.
Have a wonderful weekend,

Judaic Studies
We completed our reading of a very distressing story in the book of Judges: the story of Yiftach and his daughter. Students translated and looked at the language of this story closely, to try to understand the relationships among the family members. We looked at a powerful midrash in the form of a song: https://www.girlsintroublemusic.com/songs/mountain-father-came-back/ and then students created their own midrashim. 8th graders drew comics, wrote poems and stories, and even composed their own lyrics and songs as midrashim on this story.
Shabbat shalom,
Jessica
Math
Science
This week in science we concluded our investigation of motion by conducting a momentum experiment. Students using a ramp to measure the velocity using a photo-gate and a force meter to measure the impact of three different objects. They discovered that momentum is the power of a moving object due to its velocity and mass. When science continues after the Israel trip we will start our STEAM bridge project.
