6th Grade News: 3/19 – 3/23/18

MATH Hope everyone is doing well and enjoyed the snow day this week! The sixth grade is working hard right before the break. In 6Y, they are starting a new unit in circles. 5th Grade Week of 3/19

What a week! Our students continued to strive towards meeting their academic goals and gaining new knowledge. Our 5A students took their first trip of the year to the Brooklyn Autism Center and met some new and unique friends. Have a good and restful weekend! Worms and Passover Prep

Yahadut: Pesach Prep This week has been all about Pesach! We focused on the order of the seder, the seder plate items and their connections to the story, the various names of the holiday, and traits of characters from the story. Seder Ha’Seder Students learned to sing the order of the Seder in Hebrew with corresponding hand motions. The hand motions help us remember what is done at each step of the seder. We discussed various ways in which people communicate when they have a difference of opinion, and we discussed Emotional communication vs. Factual communication. Dear Third Grade Families, This week was one of new beginnings. We started new Social Studies, writing AND math units! As well, so many students have brought in money to support Hannah Senesh’s Penny Pot Drive, lead by the 6th Grade. Please make sure to keep sending in spare change to bring us to first place! First Grade News

In Math we continued to work on addition and subtraction with regrouping. This week, first graders applied their math strategies to real world problems. First grader writers continue to work on their realistic fiction stories. This week we started writing series. By looking at popular series books in our classrooms we noticed that series books all have the same characters, but have different adventures in each book. Many first graders decided to have their series take place in our classroom neighborhood. They made stick puppets of their characters to live in our neighborhood. Our class neighborhood is complete! Dear Kindergarten Families, We had lots of fun this week in Kindergarten! We continued talking about using kind words and being careful not to hurt others with our words. We read the story “Have You Filled a Bucket Today?” by Carol McCloud. We talked about using kind words and doing nice things to fill each other’s buckets. In Math, we continued learning about Time. Snow Day in Spring

Hello Fourth Grade Families! It has been an exciting week here in the fourth grade. Not only did we go on a field trip and get an unexpected snow day, but we have a lot of thrilling events coming up next week.
