Kindergarten Newsletter

Hello Families,

Our days have pleasantly flown by over the past week as we discussed our hopes and dreams for the year.  We started by reading “Of Thee I sing” where we explored traits of amazing people and what we want to be like/do when we grow up.  We have a class of future astronauts, comedians, teachers, mothers, bus drivers, ballerinas, fire fighters, vets, nurses, and kids who want to make the world a better place!   We then read “Someday…” and discussed what our hopes and dreams are for this year.  We have quite a range from wanting to make ice cream as a science experiment to “make beautiful things with paint and glue”.  Next week we will discuss what we need to do as a class to be able to accomplish our hopes and dreams.  We then will create our class rules.

We have launched our writing workshop this week and started to write true stories of something we have done or something that has happened to us.  Both classes bravely told, wrote, and shared their stories with a partner.  Everyone added labels to their pictures using names and letters we know!  We have now studied friends with the beginning letters of M, S, T, N.  Next week, we will study names that start with R, A, L, and B.

Kindergarteners have done a great deal of work around assertiveness this week.  They practiced communicating to friends when they don’t like something and how to take care of their bodies and space kindly, calmly, and firmly.

Next week we will create our self-portraits, launch handwriting without tears, and continue our math discussions around numbers 1-5.

Enjoy your weekend!

Hebrew/Judaics

This week as we continued to learn routines,  we learned how to say short Hebrew sentences like “I want” for male and female. We also learned about different colors, like red (ah-dom), yellow (tzahov), blue (khachol), green (yarok), purple (sagol), orange (katom).

We read a book about five balloons “chameesha ballonim”and had activities related to the book. Each student drew five balloons with the colors we learned.

In Judaic Studies, we continued the Tefilah “Modei Ani.” We did an activity in which each student put their hand prints and wrote on the print who they’re thankful for. We also started learning about Rosh Hashana and will continue to learn about it next week

Shabbat Shalom,

Anat and Tal
