8th Grade in December
Hello, parents!
8th graders are looking forward to the break starting next week, because they have been working hard in all their classes.
Humanities
In ELA, students have almost completed their poetry unit, in which they analyzed more than 25 poems over the course of a month! Now students are constructing small poetry chapbooks/zines in which they collect their own original poems, their favorite poems they read, and at least one analysis of a poem (their PRJ). They are creating beautiful pieces that I know they will keep for years to come!
In Social Studies, students are learning about the preludes to the civil war, analyzing maps and data about the economy of the North and South, in addition to gathering information about the lives and cultures of African-Americans in the mid-1800s.

Science
Science continued to explore molecules, reactions, bonds, and other concepts in chemistry. During one of our experiments students discovered if the reaction rate is increased due to temperature. We also used an assortment of simulation software to continue discovering these chemistry concepts. As we wrap up the unit and semester we continue to work on understanding physical and chemical changes as a preview to our next unit of culinary science. Their hard work and dedication have been showcased in all their assignments, activities, and experiments. Cannot wait to continue our discoveries of new science topics next semester.
