Week 28: Monday, March 26th – Thursday, March 29th

Hebrew

Dear parents,

It’s hard to believe, but Pesach is here! Over the last few days, the students were busy acting out various conversations they will have in Israel and learning new Israeli songs. I want to encourage you to further discuss with your children the importance of practicing their Hebrew while they are in Israel. I feel like the kids are ready and very enthusiastic about the trip and I look forward to meeting them in a week and a half at Ben Gurion airport!

I wish everyone Hag Pesach Sameach VeKasher!

Humanities

Literature and Writing: This week, students finished their genre projects by presenting a slideshow about their genre, completing a brief reflection on their genre club book, and crafting a short story in the style of their genre.  When we return from Israel (yay!), we will continue our work with Night.

History: This week, we finished our study of the election of 1800 by creating campaign music videos for Federalist and Republican candidates.  When we come back from Israel, we will start talking about the origins of the Civil War.

Have a wonderful Passover,

Michael

Judaic Studies

8th graders participated in reflection conversations inspired by the Passover song, “Who Knows One?” They then chose a part of the Haggada to create their own engaging seder activity about. Projects included a trivia contest where participants must play as one of the four children; a BuzzFeed style quiz to help you figure out what type of matzo you are; and Passover twister! I hope your child will share their idea at your seder tomorrow night.

Have a wonderful Pesach break, and please feel free to contact me with any Israel trip questions or concerns!

Chag sameach v’kasher,

Jessica

Math

This past week the 8th graders worked on the Pythagorean Theorem. They figured out how to find the missing side and understanding real world applications to using the Pythagorean Theorem. They ended the week with taking a test and finishing the unit on triangles. When they get back they will start a project on building bridges and understanding the math behind bridges. This project will take place throughout May in math class as well as science class.

Its been a wonderful week. I hope everyone enjoys their Passover break as well as the Israel trip. I will see them at the end of April.

Happy Passover!

Craig
