Early March

Hello Fourth Grade Families!
It has been an exciting, if cold and snowy week. Fourth graders had their last trip to the Brooklyn Autism Center, enjoyed an exciting Yom Shuk in Hebrew class, and welcomed Alisa Cohen, who will be covering for Miriam during her maternity leave, onto the Fourth Grade team!
It’s hard to believe, but Parent Teacher Conferences are next week! If you haven’t signed up yet to meet with your teachers, please do so soon.

HEBREW with Ilana:

This week the fourth grade had the Yom Shuk. The students were excited to present their projects and have their friends taste their food. After the Yom Shuk, the students were asked to express their project and to write a summary about the Yom Shuk.

JUDAIC STUDIES with Aliza:
We dove into our Pesach unit this week, specifically focusing on the Haggadah. Fourth graders have been learning the hidden meanings, historical context, and development of each part of the Pesach seder section by section. We have also been reviewing the laws and customs, songs, and cultural significance of this important Jewish holiday. Fourth Graders will have lots of new ideas and Divrei Torah to share with family come Seder night!
Shabbat Shalom!

GENERAL STUDIES with Miriam:
It has been so wonderful to have Alisa in the 4th grade classroom full time! She is taking over for Miriam once she goes on leave. She is a wonderful addition and the students love her already. Welcome, Alisa! We are so glad to have you!
In math, we have fully immersed ourselves in angles. We have learned the various categories of angles, familiarized ourselves with protractors, how to measure angles, how to draw them, and even how we use them in everyday life. Fourth graders are almost done with their latest reading group book! Over the weekend, they are finishing up and will be ready to discuss with their groups on Monday. We have been furiously outlining our current opinion writing pieces, getting all our ideas organized and ready to put into our first draft next week. In social studies, we are continuing to explore The Civil War and slavery. Today we started learning about freedom quilts and will be making our own squares next week. Be sure to look out for them on the bulletin board!
