Part-Time Lower School (K-4) Learning Specialist (Fall 2026)

Hannah Senesh Community Day School (The Senesh School), an open and inclusive K–8 Jewish independent school in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, is seeking a Part-Time (60%) K–4 Learning Specialist for the 2026–27 school year. The Learning Specialist supports students with diverse learning needs in the Lower School through assessment, intervention, and collaboration. This role partners closely with the Student Support Team (SST), teachers, families, administrators, and external service providers to design and implement responsive support plans tailored to each student’s learning profile. The Learning Specialist plays a central role in ensuring students receive appropriate, timely, and well-coordinated support aligned with the school’s values and best pratices.

The Lower School Learning Specialist is a member of the SST and reports to the Lower School Director. We are looking for a reflective, collaborative, and student-centered educator with a strong growth mindset who thrives in a collaborative environment. This 60% position offers a competitive salary of $45,000–$51,000, commensurate with experience. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct classroom observations and baseline benchmarking assessments
  • Develop and implement individualized intervention plans in collaboration with the SST
  • Monitor and document student progress, adjusting interventions as needed
  • Provide targeted one-on-one and small-group academic interventions to strengthen foundational skills or extend learning through push-in and pull-out instruction
  • Collaborate with teachers on preparation for parent-teacher conferences, student progress reports, and select meetings for students receiving support
  • Work with the SST to ensure consistency and cohesion across the support program
  • Maintain regular communication with parents and teachers regarding student progress, strategies, and recommended supports

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in special education or a related field
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience supporting K–4 learners with diverse academic needs; including an emphasis on mathematics instruction and intervention
  • Experience designing and implementing individualized interventions and differentiated instruction
  • Knowledge of assessment tools, data-driven instruction, and progress monitoring
  • Commitment to a whole child approach, supporting academic, social, and emotional development
  • Cultural competency and a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and belonging, including openness to a range of Jewish thought and practice
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across grade levels and disciplines
