Lower School Physical Education Teacher (Fall 2026)
The Senesh School, a progressive, independent K–8 Jewish day school in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, is hiring a Lower School (K–4) Physical Education Teacher to join our faculty in the 2026–27 school year. The ideal candidate is a warm, energetic, and skilled educator who fosters a love of movement, physical wellness, teamwork, and sportsmanship in young children through a developmentally appropriate physical education program. Salary range: $72,000-$82,000, commensurate with experience. Key Responsibilities:
- Teaching physical education to students in grades K–4
- Designing engaging, age-appropriate lessons that build fundamental motor skills, coordination, flexibility, strength, and physical confidence
- Creating a safe, supportive, and joyful learning environment that encourages participation and healthy risk-taking
- Maintain clear routines and expectations that promote safety and respect
- Promoting teamwork, cooperation, perseverance, and positive sportsmanship
- Integrating social-emotional learning and health and wellness concepts into instruction
- Participating in faculty meetings and professional development
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and school leadership to support school-wide initiatives
Qualifications & Dispositions:
- Degree in physical education or a related field
- Experience teaching physical education to elementary-aged children
- Strong classroom and movement management skills
- Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices for young learners
- Commitment to educating the whole child—physically, socially, and emotionally
- Collaborative, flexible, and reflective teaching practice
- Excellent communication skills with students, colleagues, and families
- Demonstrated cultural competency and a commitment to diversity, equity, belonging, and inclusive community
