What’s Happening in 5th- Final Edition!

Humanities

We did it! This year we’ve read novels, written essays, traveled through ancient civilizations, and kept up with current events. In these final weeks, the 5th graders wrote a biography about a famous woman in history, finished reading Seedfolks, and wrote themselves into the book by creating an additional chapter with their own story. In Social Studies, they created board games traveling through the duat, the Egyptian afterlife. To finish up the year, we played each other’s games and watched Wonder. I am endlessly proud of the resilience and work put in by each of the 5th graders this year. It wasn’t easy but we did it!

Have a fun, relaxing, enjoyable summer!

Math

We made it! I am so proud of the 5th grade class and I am so happy that you all were given a chance to see them present their work last Friday. These last weeks of school, the 5th grade completed their final projects, which was to create a successful food truck. They converted measurements from pound to tablespoon and quickly learned the ins and outs of running a business. They learned the origin of the number 1. They calculated combinations of different priced stamps to mail packages. They also organized and analyzed information to make logical decisions. It’s been quite a year and your children did amazing, I am so proud of them. I hope that everyone has a wonderful and restful summer

Hebrew

Dear 5th graders!!!

We finished this unexpectable year! We learned Hebrew in different ways and it was an interesting journey for us. We learned about people, about our families, about jewish traditions and about Israel. I hope that you have enriched your vocabulary and gained new knowledge. I wish you a great summer and all the best in 6th grade.
Judaics:
What an amazing first year with your children! I can’t wait to continue learning Torah with them next year. Every student did wonderful on their first Torah readings. I look forward to them reading from the actual Torah next year! We finished our learning from Bereshit about Joseph and his brothers. We ended the year reviewing our text skills with some friendly quizlett competition! We also created art to express our discoveries on the big questions of the year. “Why do people do bad things?” “Can people change?” “Can trust be rebuilt once it is broken?” “Why do bad things happen?”
Look out in your emails for summer study links for Judaics. It is optional, but very recommended! These resources will help solidify skills needed for Judaics next year. We will start the year with some fun competition based on these study resources.
I hope you all have a wonderful Summer and Shabbat Shalom,
Laura
Science
Dear 5th-grade families,
What a year it has been! I am so proud of the 5th graders for all they have done in science this year. In fact, I told them that I believe they actually learned more content than any other 5th grade has ever learned. What we couldn’t do hands-on, we made up in knowledge. From our first unit on engineering design to our last unit on magnetism and electricity, these 5th-grade scientists persevered.
It has been an honor to watch them grow over the last two years and I am sad to pass them onto Mike next year. However, I know they are ready for everything 6th grade brings!
I look forward to seeing everyone in the halls next year because as I tell the kids, “You can’t get rid of me that easily!”.
Lots of love,
Sammi
