Welcome to 7th Grade!

HUMANITIES

Hi everyone! My name is Sammy Meckler, and I am very excited to start my first year as Hannah Senesh’s 7th grade humanities teacher and sixth year as a teacher. I moved to New York–mid-pandemic–from the San Francisco Bay Area where I taught 8th grade humanities at a Jewish Day School for the past three years. This year, the students will read a variety of books, build their writing skills, and develop their knowledge of U.S. history. I am looking forward to helping the students grow and learn, as well as learning alongside them throughout the year.

Please feel free to contact me at smeckler@hannahsenesh.org. Here’s to a great year!

HEBREW

Bruchim HaBaym Le Ivrit- Welcome to a year of Hebrew!

My name is Andreea Adereth and this is my 12th year teaching Hebrew in the Middle School at Hannah Senesh. Teaching Hebrew as a Second Language is my passion! I look forward to guiding the children on an exciting journey in which they will discover the beauty of speaking a second language and will be able to communicate with Israelis and with Hebrew speakers from the entire world. In addition to teaching Hebrew, I strive to instill in my students a lifelong love for learning and a real connection to Israel, to its people, language, and culture.

I can always be reached at aadereth@hannahsenesh.org and I cannot wait to meet everyone soon!

SCIENCE

Hello, I am Mike Noll, an excited fourth year school teacher here at Hannah Senesh. I hope to continue contributing to the community as your Middle School science teacher. I have been involved with Middle School science for over a decade. I cannot wait to continue to demonstrate my passion for science with your child as we explore the subject through creative projects and activities. I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer. I am looking forward, with great anticipation, to a fabulous year of science learning. Throughout the year, if you have any questions concerning our class or your child, please do not hesitate to contact me at mnoll@hannahsenesh.org.

Sincerely,

Mike Noll

MATH

Hi everyone! My name is Shana Orlando, and I’m excited to be returning for my third year as the 7th and 8th grade math teacher at Hannah Senesh! I am extremely passionate about Mathematics and have spent the past 11 years teaching and tutoring all levels of math from Kindergarten through college.

This year will be quite different than any school year we’ve all experienced but I look forward to supporting the students as they navigate through it, as it is a learning process for all of us. My goal is to foster a creative, safe, and fun learning environment where students can experience the beauty of both the abstract and practical mathematical world.
I enjoyed getting to know the 7th Grade during our in-person and remote orientations this week and I am looking forward to having a productive and engaging school year!

JUDAIC STUDIES

!ברוכים הבאים

Welcome! I am looking forward to a wonderful year of learning with the 7th grade. We will be exploring ספר במדבר/the book ofNumbersand thinking about what it takes to turn a group of whiny, dependent, immature slaves into a self-sufficient, courageous, and mature nation. Does our past determine our future? Can we choose to become more mature? How should a society balance the needs of individuals with the needs of the group? Students will also look at laws and ethical dilemmas in rabbinic texts, and will get a chance to develop and articulate their thinking through debate, art projects, technology, and reflective writing. I can’t wait!

Please be in touch with questions, concerns, and ideas at jlissy@hannahsenesh.org
