HUMANITIES:

Hello families! My name is Sarah Fielkow and I will be your middle schooler’s Humanities teacher. Humanities will include ELA (English/Language Arts) and Social Studies. I am excited to be joining the Senesh family after most recently teaching at a community Jewish Day School in Chicago. This year, your children will be learning about the rise of civilizations leading us from early humans to Mesopotamia and into ancient Egypt, India, and China. We will explore how these civilizations formed and how they paved the way for today’s world. During our ELA time students will be focusing on rich discussions and themes within our class novels, their own independent reading, expanding upon their writing skills and repertoire, and building a vocabulary and grammatical toolbox. I am looking forward to a wonderful year!

Please always reach out to me with any questions or concerns!

All Best,

JUDAICS:

My name is Laura Marder. I will be your child’s Judaics and Tefillah teacher as well as a 5th grade adviser. I am so excited to get to know your children and learn together. We will be focusing on the Joseph stories in Chumash, Pre 1948 Israel history and values and text based holiday studies. I can’t wait to tell you more about it on back to school night. I am very passionate about Jewish text and mindfulness. This summer I was lucky enough to be a part of the very first Romemu Yeshiva where I spent six intensive weeks in contemplative text study classes and Jewish meditation. I am looking forward to bringing some of the gems I learned into this class, especially during our tefillah time.  We will be using big life questions to drive our learning such as; “How does our past affect our present,” ” Do intentions matter,” “How can I be responsible for myself and my community,” and so many more! This year we will also continue work on skill building to become independent learners of text as well as good chevruta’s (learning partners).

Please feel free to always reach out with any questions or concerns.

Shabbat Shalom,

Laura

Math

Hello parents! My name is Katie and I am so excited to be returning to Senesh to teach 5th grade math. This year you can expect your children to come home excited about what they have learned. We will be learning through real life situations, projects, puzzles, and using our creativity on a daily basis. Along with math concepts and skills, we will also be focusing on confidence in the classroom, respect for one another, organization, and putting in our best effort in everything we do. We will start out the year learning about the wonderful world of Whole Numbers (place value, expanded form, estimating, etc.). I am looking forward to a great year!

מאחלת לכולכם הצלחה,
