Week one for the 8th Grade!

HUMANITIES

I am so very excited to begin my second year at Hannah Senesh (and my 7th year in education) with this group of 8th graders! I have heard only good things about the class, and look forward to engaging students in new and challenging content that will solidify the work they’ve already been doing in previous years. As students read books from contemporary and historic American authors in their ELA course, they will also learn about the rich American legacy in their Social Studies course. I look forward to all the curiosity the students bring!

JUDAICS

!ברוכים הבאים / Welcome back! I can’t wait for another year of learning with the 8th grade. This year we will be finishing the Torah and looking at selections from Nevi’im/Prophets, as well as exploring both legal and narrative texts from the Talmud. An overarching theme of the year will be Legacy: what has been passed on to you? What will you pass on to others? What will you do with the gifts you have been given? Through the story of Moshe’s farewell to Bnai Yisrael, rabbinic texts about the relationship between parents and children, and preparing to leave Hannah Senesh, 8th graders will take a deep dive into what it means to be the inheritors of our tradition.

HEBREW

Bruchim HaBaym Le Ivrit- Welcome to a year of Hebrew!

My name is Andreea Adereth and this is my 12th year teaching Hebrew in the Middle School at Hannah Senesh. Teaching Hebrew as a Second Language is my passion! I look forward to guiding the children on an exciting journey in which they will discover the beauty of speaking a second language and will be able to communicate with Israelis and with Hebrew speakers from the entire world. In addition to teaching Hebrew, I strive to instill in my students a lifelong love for learning and a real connection to Israel, to its people, language, and culture. 8th Grade is an especially meaningful year since the students will be able to use all that they have learned over the years on their trip to Israel.

I can always be reached at aadereth@hannahsenesh.org and I cannot wait to meet everyone soon!

MATH

Hi everyone! As you already know, my name is Shana Orlando, and I’m excited to be returning for my third year as the 7th and 8th grade math teacher at Hannah Senesh! This year will be quite different than any school year we’ve all experienced but I look forward to supporting the students as they navigate through it, as it is a learning process for all of us.

I can’t wait to catch up with the 8th Grade, especially seeing as we have not seen each other in person since March! They worked incredibly hard last year during Distance Learning and I know they will bring that same energy to this new hybrid model of learning.

I am eager to provide them with a fun, math-filled final year as students of Hannah Senesh. Go Class of 2021!

SCIENCE

Hello, I am Mike Noll, an excited fourth year school teacher here at Hannah Senesh. I hope to continue contributing to the community as your Middle School science teacher. I have been involved with Middle School science for over a decade. I cannot wait to continue to demonstrate my passion for science with your child as we explore the subject through creative projects and activities. I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer. I am looking forward, with great anticipation, to a fabulous year of science learning. Throughout the year, if you have any questions concerning our class or your child, please do not hesitate to contact me at mnoll@hannahsenesh.org.

Sincerely,

Mike Noll
