On Tuesday, the 8th graders helped do so much needed work in Coffey Park in Red Hook. Students helped clean up trash and lay mulch in the park.

Dear parents,
It’s hard to believe, but THIS IS OUR LAST BLOG:( I am so proud of your children for completing this year, with many laughs, some tears and also a lot of Hebrew! This year, the students focused on honing their verbal skills while also learning about Israeli culture. They ended the year with a written autobiography and a short personal movie.

Today, they said goodbye to the entire school, and it was a very emotional moment.

Humanities
Literature and Writing: During our last week of school, students discussed Pride Month. We took a quiz on terms related to LGBTQI issues, read about recent media representations of LGBT youths, learned more about recent controversies related to transgender rights, and learned about young activities within these communities. Students also created an elevator pitch for an original TV show or movie with a main character who is a member of those communities.
History: Students presented their independent research projects at the schools first ever American History Fair. Their topics were diverse and their displays were informative, inventive, and fun. Thank you to those of you who could take time out of your schedules to come experience the fair in person. And for those of you who could not make it, please enjoy these photos of the event:
I hope everyone has wonderful and relaxing summer.
Best,
Michael
Judaic Studies
We spent this week reflecting on what we’ve learned over the course of the year. Looking back through our year of learning, students were able to connect multiple texts and life experiences to questions such as:
“There was no king in those days. Everyone did what he thought was right.” (Sefer Shoftim) Do right and wrong exist? Do we also live in a world where “everyone does what he/she thinks is right” Is that good or bad?
What role does making mistakes play in the Jewish story? How can a person keep from repeating his or her mistakes?
What are Jewish ways to say goodbye?
Inspired by the last question, we baked and ate s’mores together, and then gave each other written brachot – blessings and good wishes for the year ahead.
I wish you and your children a wonderful summer and a fantastic first year of high school!
Shabbat shalom,
Jessica
Math and Science
8th Grade finished their bridge STEAM project this week by showing their presentation video in class. Students also tested their bridges to see if they can withstand a live load. These created bridges all held their minimal require weight, however students wanted to add additional weight in order to see the maximum load before collapse. We all enjoyed each other’s bridges and the engineering skills applied during the building process. This has been a rewarding project applying the math and science knowledge and skills to bridge building.
We wish everyone a happy summer and many more successes in their next school.
