Shavuot Sameach!

Dear Fourth Grade Families,

We are so proud of our students for braving the ERBs, speaking Hebrew on their Israeli restaurant trip, and working hard on their various projects! It’s hard to believe there is less than a month left to the school year, and with so many events and trips coming up, that time is sure to pass very quickly.

We hope you enjoy your Shavuot and long weekend!

Shabbat Shalom,

The Fourth Grade Team

HEBREW with Ilana:

The highlight of this week for 4th grade was the field trip to the Israeli restaurant. The students ordered their food in Hebrew. After we walked to Kingshighway street and looked for signs in Hebrew and then the students bought candies in the Israeli grocery. The students had a great experience and we will summarize this field trip with written project.

Shabbat Shalom
JUDAIC STUDIES with Aliza:
This week, the fourth grade finished learning Megillat Ruth in preparation for Shavuot. We have now officially finished our Ancient Israel curriculum! On Thursday, we learnt an extra lesson focusing on the Prophet Elijah (Eliyahu HaNavi) as he appears in Tanach. Students were surprised to see what a different person he is in the original source and in later folklore! Fourth graders have also been working hard on their end of the year Judaic Studies projects. Next week, we will play our Ancient Israel-focused Jeopardy game and start to finish up our Chumash unit.
Shabbat Shalom and Shavuot Sameach!
GENERAL STUDIES with Alisa:
This week, fourth graders tackled the ERBs over the course of 2 days. We are proud of their hard work, focus, and perseverance!

In Writing, students worked diligently to make the final touches on their nonfiction books. As editors, they searched their pieces for run-on sentences and added in periods and commas to break them up. We learned that in order to be successful editors, we need to read through our writing at least five times – checking for spelling, punctuation, capital letters, run-on sentences, and readable handwriting. Next week, fourth graders will choose how they want to publish their pieces and we will celebrate with a Ted-Talk themed publishing party.
