Schnitzi restaurant, science exploration and much more!
Dear Kindergarten Families,
We had a week full of learning and fun activities. We had so much fun visiting Yahli’s family’s restaurant and learning all about those who work there!
In Math, we continued our unit on Subtraction. We practiced making a number sentence out of a “how many more?” problem. We learned how to look at pictures of items and compare which one has more and write a number sentence to describe the problem. We also learned how to solve simple subtraction problems.
In English Language Arts, we continued our Non-fiction/Informational writing unit. We wrote science books titled “Who Am I?” The children chose an animal and wrote a book giving clues about the animal. As a final project, we also wrote books about imaginary creatures or people we know. You can enjoy reading our books on the bulletin board outside the classroom! During the week, we learned about –all words (as in “mall”). We learned how to read and write words with this pattern.
In Social Studies, we continued our City Block Unit. We visited Yahli’s family’s restaurant to continue learning about restaurants. We wrote a class book about all that we learned on our trip.
In Science, we continued our unit Exploring Plants and Animals. Every day, we observed our caterpillars and ladybugs, and recorded their metamorphosis on our observation calendar. In addition, we continued to observe our alfalfa seeds, pea seeds, and lima beans. We noticed how our plants are growing and recorded it on our observation sheets! On Thursday, we compared the different kinds of plants and talked about the similarities and differences between alfalfa, pea, and lima bean plants. We were excited to bring our plants home!
Hebrew and Judaic
This week we continued learning about Matan Torah (The giving of the Torah) and Shavuot. We read the story about the different mountains that wanted the Torah to be given on them. Each one explained why he is the best for Matan Torah. The mountains were named har Adom – red mountain, har Lavan- white mountain, har Zahav- golden mountain, har Shachor- black mountain, har Gavoha – high/tall mountain and har Sinai- mount Sinai . We discussed the reasons why Mount Sinai was chosen (He did not brag like the other mountains) and the importance of being humble. We learned that as the Torah is good for everyone and every place in the world, we should accept others even when they are different. We also reviewed different foods we have in a restaurants and what we like to eat there. for example : “ani ohev pizza” (I like pizza), “Ani ohev glidah” (I like ice cream) On Wednesday we went to Yahli’s restaurant – (misaada) called “Shnitzi” and the food was delicious (taiim). Children ordered in Hebrew “shnitzel”- chicken nuggets and chips- french fries. We also played word and letter games and children wrote and drew pictures of words they know.
Have a fun and safe Memorial Day weekend!
Shabbat Shalom!
