Library Field Trip and Celebrating Pesach

Chag Pesach Sameach!

We’ve spent the past few weeks preparing for Passover. Students read the story in Hebrew and made personal haggadot and seder plates. Our class seder was a culmination of all the learning we’ve been doing, as students were able to put items on their own seder plate and lead a class seder together. Chag Sameach to all the second grade families!

Students hand out seder plate items while other students tell them where on plate to place them.

Our seder plates are ready!

Library Field Trip Second graders have been motivated and excited about reading, so we decided why not take a trip to our local community library. This tied in with our social studies curriculum on communities in Brooklyn, where we discussed why a library is an important part of a community. On this trip our librarian, Elena, discussed her job as a librarian, what a library brings to a community, how libraries work, and special programs libraries offer. She read us some of her favorite books, taught us some fun spring crafts, and showed us the kids section in the library. Elena showed us the proper way to take out and put away library books, and told us the rules of the library. We loved learning about her job, seeing the library, and getting a chance to explore the books. Over the break or any weekend, take a trip to the Carroll Gardens Library and enjoy some quiet reading!
