Kindergarten Newsletter

Hello Families,

Our community is becoming increasingly comfortable and taking more risks during our morning meeting activities.  This week, we have learned to shake hands (no limp fishes!) while making eye contact, share though turn and talks and games like “just like me”, and learn names singing “can you guess the name?” and “Busy busy bumble bee”. This group is great at remembering details about other children!

We have been exploring how we take care of ourselves and the community this week.  After reading The Quiet Place, we discussed our own quiet place (the place we think about that calms us when we are upset or need a break).  We drew and colored our special place and set aside a chair we can go to when we need to take a break in our classroom and think about our quiet place. Everyone tried it out!  We will add on tools to our special take-a-break area as we discuss calming strategies. So far, we count, breathe, do “peace begins with me”, stretch, and think about what makes us happy.

Letter study is becoming a part of our daily routine where we look closely for letters in books, our room, and friends’ names.  We also have a special way to learn new ones. We look, name, say, write, and search for new letters. ABC yoga is a favorite as well. Everyone is excited for when we pull their name from the star jar and cheer for their starting letter!

Kindergarten has celebrated our success at being steady and ready during 2 evacuation drills and a lockdown drill.  3 of our drills have happened when we were in new places!  Please congratulate your child on how safe and considerate they have been.

Oh! And we had a wonderful time meeting our 4th grade buddies. We read books, chatted, and made plans for our next get together!

We will see you on Monday at open school night!

Dear Families,

This week was the first full week in Kindergarten and what a week it was!

In Hebrew, as we continued to work on class routine, through morning meetings, we continued to learn about names, days of the week and weather.
We also introduced the kids to the topic of family. Learning related vocabulary.
In Judaics, we continued to learn the “Modeh Ani” prayer. drawing pictures and talking about things we are thankful for. Some of the kids thoughts were: “I am thankful for my mom and dad” “I am thankful for the sun”, “I am thankful for my friends”.
Below is a family related vocabulary
Father- Abba- אבא
Mother – Imma – אמא
Grandfather –  Sabba – סבא
Grandmother – Savta – סבתא

Art with Iviva:

This was our first week in art class! Iviva introduced herself and the art room, and we made leaf rubbings with crayons on paper. Some of us used scissors for the first time, cutting around our leaves and gluing them onto magazine pages. This week, we ended class by reading a book together. We looked at the illustrations and talked about the drawings while listening to the story. We will continue reading this book in the next few weeks. We will also continue working on our cutting and drawing skills, and experimenting with texture through a wide range of materials. We can’t wait!
