Kindergarten Hebrew Studies

Dear Kindergarten parents, הורים יקרים

It’s been a busy two weeks for us in Kindergarten! We returned from break restored and ready to go.

Here’s what we’ve been up to:

In Hebrew, we learned about parts of our body. We began with head ראש, hands ידיים, and legs רגליים, then moved on to our faces פנים with eyes עיניים, ears עוזניים, nose אך, and mouth פה. Yesterday we added stomach בטן and back גב. Because we are learning about parts of our body we had so many dynamic ways to review what we learned including Simon Says and freeze dance! Next we’ll be learning about the clothing we wear on our bodies and how to dress appropriately for winter weather.

In Judaics we’ve been very busy getting ready for Tu B’Shvat ט״ו בשבט. We made a list of all the things trees give to us: Fruit, shade, clean air, paper, wood for desks and shelves, cardboard, newspaper, places to climb. We talked about ways to help trees like recycling and making sure we use both sides of coloring paper so we’re not wasting. We learned where fruits and vegetables come from and played a sorting game to help us learn which bracha to say for things that come from trees העץ and things that grow in the ground האדמה. We read the book חנן הגנן about a farmer who teaches children about the hidden treasure inside fruit… the seeds. For art, we painted buds on trees with Q-tips. We also used coffee filters and watery markers to create beautiful tie-dye flowers that even smell like the real thing! Lastly, we’ve been practicing very hard to learn the words to our special song השקדיה פורחת about the trees blossoming and getting ready for the holiday. You can celebrate with your family on January 20th by eating some of the “seven species” שבעת המינים that grow in Israel: Wheat, barley, grapes, figs, pomegranate, olives, and dates.

That’s all for now!
