Kindergarten Blog 5/12

Dear Kindergarten Families,

What an exciting week! We’ve been busy with rehearsals for our Kabbalat Shabbat ceremony next Friday 5/19 at 9 am, hosting our buddies for a Family Museum, and Yom Sport on Tuesday.

This week in Hebrew and Judaics, we enjoyed a spectacular Lag B’Omer field day! The Kindergartners loved the relay races and games, and learned super fun cheers. It was definitely a day to remember.

We continued preparing for our special Kabbalat Shabbat ceremony with our families. This ceremony will take place on Friday May 19th at 9am. Please dress your Kindergartner in a white top, with dark bottoms that day. They cannot wait for this special day!

Kindergartners started decorating their Shabbat boxes that they will share with you at the Kabbalat Shabbat ceremony. They are so excited to show you all of the items they have been creating for their Shabbat boxes. Every family will take home a Shabbat Box on May 19th.

We continue to count the Omer every day preparing for Chag Shavuot, the holiday of Matan Torah (the giving of the Torah). We read a book called “The Story of the Ten Commandments.” Reading this story brought up a lot of interesting ideas and questions about how rules and expectations keep us safe, and make it possible for people to live together harmoniously.

In Science, we began our final science unit, on the butterfly life cycle! A week ago, we got 24 baby caterpillars and since last Friday the kindergartners have been carefully tracking how long they are in millimeters and sketching them daily as they grow bigger. It is surely our most exciting unit (or at least their Science teacher thinks so)!

In Writers Workshop, the kindergartners looked at Atalya’s story and discussed how to fix the beginning pages so that the reader jumps right into the story after learning Who the story is about, Where the story takes place, and What will happen.

On Wednesday we prepared for our Family Museum by making a colorful sign, tickets, and chocolate chip bars for the cafe!  On Thursday the Buddies came in the morning and the afternoon to see our projects, hear our Love Makes a Family song, and eat our yummy treat. Everyone had a great time!  Some of the fourth graders thought the treats came from Nili’s!

In Music, Kindergarteners have now learned about all of the sections of the orchestra: Strings, Woodwinds, Brass and Percussion! Plus they’ve been air-drawing music and dancing to music with scarves.

Shabbat Shalom,

K Team
