Humanities

In English/Language Arts, students have been reading Beowulf: A New Telling and exploring how the author uses symbolism and imagery in the text. In social studies, we are concluding a chapter about early African civilizations (500-1500). After gaining a sense of world events in the period after the fall of Rome, we’ll transition to the medieval period of European history. We are starting a new unit of vocabulary, and I’m excited to continue to help students build their writing skills.

It was great seeing your kids after the break! Since returning from the break we used the time to talk and strengthen verbal skills by discussing vacation and using some verbs in past tense.

It was great seeing your kids after the break!  Since returning from the break we have discussed the usage of phones at home or outside of school. We used the topic to start a debate. This will allow students to explain and support opinions.

להורים שלום,
תודה רבה לכולכם על התמיכה וההבנה שסייעה לי לעבור תקופה קשה, כרטיסי הברכה שהתלמידים הכינו לי חיממו את הלב.
השבוע המשכנו את העבודה על יחידת ההגירה כמו כן, הגיעו אלינו השינשינים ועשו פעילות מרתקת על מערכת הבחירות הקרובה בישראל.
שבת שלום,

Judaic Studies

It was wonderful to welcome the 7th grade back to school this week! After several lessons focused on understanding Bnai Yisrael’s experience, we are switching perspective: what is it like to be Moshe? What burdens are placed on leaders? How should we respond when we feel overwhelmed? Students created non-verbal skits, predicting how they think Moshe will respond to Bnai Yisrael’s incessant crying and complaining about the food. We translated several verses together, and focused in particular on the phrase “the people cried in the doorways of their tents.” Why would someone cry in the doorway, neither inside nor outside? Ask your 7th grader!
