HUMANITIES

7th graders are engaging with Revolutionary America, writing essays in response to the question: Was the response of the American colonists to the Stamp Act justified? They have been engaged with primary and secondary sources to develop a myriad of reasons defending their position. Asking your student where they stand and why! Meanwhile, in ELA we have started reading a collection of short stories entitled Flying Lessons and Other Stories. We have discussed story structure and the elements that are necessary for a story to be a story. Students will work their way towards writing their own short stories as we read a diverse array of stories throughout the unit.

 

MATH

7th graders have been focusing on positive and negative rational numbers. They have been engaging in hands-on activities and real-world problem solving to deepen their understanding. 7Y recently finished a project where they analyzed the concept of positive and negative fractions and decimals and the impact of temperature on the sea level.  

The next topic we will cover is: Expressions, Equations, and Inequalities.

SCIENCE

After our successful Rube Goldberg Showcase before the break, students started to discover environmental issues and biomes. Students selected five environmental issues and five inventions that can help resolve or reduce those issues. We then started to study the different biomes in the world. Students researched biomes and used interactive software to learn what plants and animals are in each biome. Then they created their own virtual dioramas of a biome and wrote a letter to their science teacher explaining what they observed in their biome. After our studies about biomes, we focused on water pollution. Students will soon be challenged to create water filters in order to clean a beaker for dirty water. This challenge will allow students to discover the concept of filtration and apply their engineering skills to the challenge. In the coming weeks, we will continue to explore water, its properties, and how it affects weather and climate.

התחלנו יחידה חדשה ומרתקת על אישיות יהודיות המשפיעות על תחומי דעת שונים בעולם. סקרנו אנשים מיוחדים מתחומים שונים, כגון: מוזיקה, ספרות, ספורט, כלכלה ועוד. לאחר הסקירה, כל תלמיד בחר בדמות שעליה הוא כותב את הפרויקט שלו. מטרת הפרויקט, היא לחשוף את התלמידים למילים חדשות, לתרגל קריאת טקסטים וכתיבת פסקאות.
