Humanities

In ELA, students have been finishing analysis of Beowulf: A New Telling by identifying major themes and writing theme statements about the book. We’ve been continuing our second set of vocabulary. Instead of taking a traditional quiz this week, we wrote poems, journal entries, or gratitude notes using at least five vocabulary words from weeks 1-6. I was so impressed and inspired by their creativity and thoughtfulness in this task. They wrote thoughtful, funny poems and kind notes, all using words like bestow, vaunt, renegade, incipient, and many more. In social studies, students are choosing a modern Muslim person to research. They will practice taking notes from internet sources, citing online documents, and creating a product to communicate their research (poster, video, kahoot, diary entry). You should see your child reading their third independent reading book each night! This assignment will be due before the February break.

Math

It’s our first full week back at school and the 7th grade is off to a great start! We’re working on Solving Linear Equations in One Variable and how to handle different types of Algebraic Equations. We even applied that knowledge to various Algebraic puzzles where we use the solutions of the variables to decode hidden messages. How fun!

Hebrew

7K
Students shared with each other their expressions from winter break. They spoke in Hebrew about their family vacation and places where they traveled. We reviewed and enriched vocabulary and grammar rules in Hebrew on the topic “My room ”. Students learned numbers in masculine and feminine forms Hebrew and worked with partners to train how to use them right.

7J
We started to learn new story “Girl from Lapland” written by famous Israeli children writer Lea Goldberg. This story is about land of Lapland and people that live there. We learned new vocabulary and grammar rules (compared sentences) as part of a unit which helps students to expand their narratives. Through Hebrew language the students have a chance to learn about the new places in the world and different  cultures.

להורים יקרים,
השבוע התלמידים המשיכו לעבוד על פרויקט המסכם את היחידה “אנשים עם מוגבלויות” אשר במהלכו נחשפו התלמידים לסוגים שונים של קשיים ביום יום של ילדים בני גילם. הפרויקט מורכב מכמה שלבים בהם התלמידים חוקרים וכותבים באופן עצמאי אודות ארגון או עמותה שבחרו המסייעת לילדים עם מוגבלויות.
סוף שבוע נעים,
