Healthy Nutrition, Letter F, Creation and more!
Dear Families,
We had a great week in kindergarten!
In Math, we were working on ordering numbers from 0-10, learning the words one less, one more, and the same. We used our ten frames to help us practice solving problems with one more and one less. We are almost finished with our first Math workbooks!
In English Language Arts, we learned the letter F and the sound /f/ it makes. We practiced forming upper and lowercase letters Ff using our Handwriting Without Tears books, wooden planks, shaving cream, and finding words that start with F and drawing pictures of them. We also introduced our sight word for with a poem and practiced writing it.
We got our learning buddies who are friends in our group that we read with during quiet time!
In Writing, we wrote our first “Small moments” stories. We learned about strategies for writing such as adding details to our pictures and more words. We shared our stories with our learning buddies.
In Social Studies/Science, we talked about healthy food and nutrition. We learned about the idea of Go foods (healthy foods we can eat all the time), slow foods (a little healthy, but we do not want to eat all the time), and woah! foods (unhealthy foods). During Social Studies, we went to the local organic market, searched and discussed about healthy choices and bought fruit for our taste test during science. We discussed our families’ favorite food.
During Science, we are learning about our 4th sense: taste. We made a graph of our favorite fruits and played a game “Guess by Taste” to guess which fruit we tried. We also made pizzas and got to taste them!
In Hebrew/Judaics, we focused on the Creation of the world – the second day of creation. We discussed how G-d divided the water above the Rakiah ( rain– גשם, clouds-עננים, snow-שלג, ) and water under the Rakiah. (sea-,ים). We explored water and learned about how water evaporates to form clouds, which then condense to make rain and snow. We are doing a class experiment to see what will happen to water in a container after a few hours or days. We have been using related vocabulary such as : mayim- מים, yam- ים, shamayim- שמים, geshem- גשם, sheleg- שלג, ananim- עננים, and ruach- רוח. We also sorted toys by color and continued with our Bereshit Art project by painting and creating pictures of the second day of creation. In Hebrew we integrated the topic of creation into our discussion of weather and the Israeli map. We looked at the map and discussed what the different colors represent, and focused especially on how the color blue represents Yam (sea). We played color matching games with colors such as green-ירוק yellow-צהוב red-אדום, blue-כחול, and purple-סגול. Every week we will add more colors. We sang the song “Geshem geshem mishamayim” and “Beruach hastav”, which is about the rain, wind and fall. We read the books such as The blue day- היום הכחול, and The green day- היום הירוק both written by Shulamit Tzarfati, and Pilim Mikol Hatzvaeem by Ami Rubinger.- פילים מכל הצבעים.

Art with Iviva:
Still getting used to a new school, this week each of us made a “foot,” that will be placed in the hallway on the 1st floor to show us the path to the bathrooms outside the music and art rooms. It makes us feel special to play a role in decorating our environment.
