First Grade News
This week in first grade we learned numbers up to 120, reviewed place value, and practiced estimating. In Writing Workshop, students got their realistic fiction stories ready to be published! We will celebrate their stories at a mini publishing party next week.
Next week on Arbor Day, April 27th, first graders will welcome the new tree outside our building! As part of our social action, we take care of the trees outside our school. To get ready for this celebration we read “The Lorax” by Dr. Seuss, and discussed cause and effect.
This week in our Hebrew classroom, we traveled all the way to the mountains of Jerusalem. As part of their stop in Jerusalem, each student wrote notes, about their hopes and wishes, to put in our class kotel (Western Wall) that we are going to make next week. They can’t wait to show you their amazing work at the Siddur Ceremony. We also talked about Yom Ha’atzmaut – Israel’s Independence Day and had so much fun celebrating it at school. See below for pictures from our celebration.
In Parasha, we learned about Parashat Tazria – Metzora. We spoke about that one of the Kohanim jobs was to help people when they get sick, just like today’s doctors. We also spoke about the similarities and differences to what we do today when we are sick to what they did in the time of the Torah.
