First Grade News

Hello Families,

It has been really wonderful to start meeting with parents and sharing all the growth we have observed in your children!

In Hebrew, we learned the letter hey. We added new words to our word wall like; har (mountain), hadas (myrtle) and hegeh (steer wheel). We also practice writing so many words with the letters that we have learned so far like; atah (you), milah (word), ayalah (deer), he (she) and lavi (lion). The first graders were so proud to be able to read and write so many words. We also spoke about the life of Hannah Senesh and each student drew a beautiful picture of the ocean inspired by the song called “Eli, Eli “.

This week parasha is parashat Vayera. We read the story about Avraham and the three angels, who came to tell Avraham that he and Sarah will have a son. Avraham invited them into his house even though he did not know them. This is an example for hachnasat orchim (welcoming guests). To show our appreciation to all the staff members who help to make our school such a welcoming community, the first graders made them beautiful thank you cards.

Meet out new math friends—they are called Kerfuffles! They only come out when it is quiet and they are here to keep us company while learning. As we continue with math and math bonuses our Kerfuffles will be there with us cheering us on! Ask your student what their Kerffufle’s name is.

Shabbat Shalom,
