fifth grade week of 9\24

Humanities

In Humanities, we are continuing writing our personal narratives, studying Wonder, and exploring our new History Alive! history curriculum. Students are learning the basic skills that come with being a Middle School humanities student, and are identifying their strengths and areas of improvement as they begin to start more challenging work. Our NYC Challenge experience was incredible, and truly bonded us as a community! Have a good weekend!

Judaics-Please see Laura’s separate post about the NYC Challenge!

Math

Fifth grade math students have been working hard at the last pages of our first unit. This week, we’ve been focusing on patterns created by a list of numbers, and what the strategy (or strategies) are needed to find missing numbers. For example, what is the missing number is the following list, and how would you determine that?
      32,000    8,000   4,000    _____    500   125
Try it! And email me to see if you’re correct! Finally, fifth graders are reviewing for their first quiz. They’ll be able to practice and see me if they need help.

Hebrew

These past couple of weeks the 5th grade has been working on listening comprehension activities.
Students listened to short conversations on the topic of food answered questions on the activity and practiced the conversations in pairs.
In addition, students were introduced to “Google classroom” and to “Quizlet”.
Quizlet is a website where students can practice sets of vocabulary that were learned in class through games.
I have created a set for the class and they learned how to access and use the site, I encourage students to use this as this is a wonderful tool for review.
