Welcome to 7th Grade!

HUMANITIES Hi everyone! My name is Sammy Meckler, and I am very excited to start my first year as Hannah Senesh’s 7th grade humanities teacher and sixth year as a teacher. I moved to New York–mid-pandemic–from the San Francisco Bay Area where I taught 8th grade humanities at a Jewish Day School for the past three years. This year, the students will read a variety of books, build their writing skills, and develop their knowledge of U.S. history. I am looking forward to helping the students grow and learn, as well as learning alongside them throughout the year. Please feel...

Welcome to Second Grade!!

Wow, It feels great to be back in the classroom with the new second graders! Not too long ago, rejoining together as a learning community under one roof felt impossible. Thankfully, with the incredible commitment and tireless work from school leadership this summer, the new second graders launched into the school year with laughter and an eagerness to learn while taking care to keep each other healthy and safe. It indeed has been a great first week in second grade practicing new routines, nurturing strong community pods, and playing games to learn more about each.   While every school year...

Week one for the 8th Grade!

HUMANITIES I am so very excited to begin my second year at Hannah Senesh (and my 7th year in education) with this group of 8th graders! I have heard only good things about the class, and look forward to engaging students in new and challenging content that will solidify the work they’ve already been doing in previous years. As students read books from contemporary and historic American authors in their ELA course, they will also learn about the rich American legacy in their Social Studies course. I look forward to all the curiosity the students bring! Joseph, jhayden@hannahsenesh.org   JUDAICS...

Welcome to 6th Grade! 9/11/20

Humanities:  My name is Naomi Forman, and I’m looking forward to another year as a 6th grade humanities teacher and advisor. While this year may feel different and strange at first, I’m confident that together we’ll learn joyfully, challenge ourselves academically, and grow even stronger as a community. I can’t wait to continue to see many 6th grade faces (though mask-covered!) back in our friendly and colorful classrooms, and I’m also excited to try out innovative digital platforms during our remote classes online. In Social Studies and English Language Arts, students can expect to engage deeply with texts: they’ll read...
