Hello Families, In Hebrew, we learned the letters pey, fey and fey sofit (final fey) and a new vowel that makes the “Eh” sound. We added more words to our word wall, like parpar (butterfly),pil (elephant), pitriya (mashroom), perach (flower), patish (hammer), and parah (cow). We also spoke about the life of Hannah Senesh and enjoyed singing a song she wrote called “Eli, Eli.” In Yahadut, we continued working on our siddurim and learned a new prayer from the amida called hael hakadosh, which we thank God for the holy thing (siddur, mezuzah, etc.) and times (Shabbat, chagim, etc.) in our life. Hello Families, In Hebrew, we learned the letter reish and we added more words to our word wall like: rakevet (train), raashan (grogger) and rimon (pomegranate). We also learned 3 new action words – raah (saw for boy), raatah (saw for girl), nach(to rest for boy), nacha (to rest for girl), shar (to sing for boy), and sharah (to sing for girl). Dear Families, In Hebrew, we learned the letters mem, mem sofit (final mem), lamed, and a new vowel, which makes the “Ee” sound. We added lots of new words to our word wall, like menorah (lamp), melech (king), mechonit (car), matanah (gift), magafayim (boots), michnasayim (pants), misparayim (scissors), lechem (bread), lashon (tongue) and lev (heart). Hello Families, This week first graders were excited to meet Shoshana Nambi , the author of the book “The Very Best Sukkah – A Story From Uganda” visited our classroom. She enthusiastically shared about her book and we had a chance to ask her questions! In Hebrew, we learned the letter kuf and added new words to our word wall like: kasdah (helmet), kipod (porcupine), kobiyah(cube) and keshet (rainbow). In Hebrew, we learned the letters nun and nun sofit (final nun) and added new words to our word wall like nachash (snake), namer (tiger), naalayim (shoes), ner (candle), and nemala (ant). We continue to practice our reading and writing with all the letters that we have learned so far. Hello Families, We had a very exciting week in first grade! First grade has focused on creating an inclusive, kind community as we get to know each other better.  We are discussing our identity and what makes us similar, different, and special.
