10/29 Kindergarten Blog

Dear Kindergarten Families,   This week in our Morning Meetings, students paired up with someone new each day to share something about ourselves, and then shared to the group what our partners said. The children are getting to know everyone and working on their listening skills! We introduced a tricky new song called “Dreams of Harmony,” where we sing “Goodnight” in many different languages. We also learned “You Are My Sunshine.” The big news of the week is that we have student jobs! The children were very excited to learn that starting Monday, everyone will have their very own classroom...

Dear Kindergarten Families,   This week, we got creative with our greetings! We’ve gotten used to greeting each other individually in our Morning Meetings, but now we’ve added in fancy waves and movements to our greetings for friends to mirror back to us. We also learned a new alphabet song called “Alligators All Around.”   As part of our continued study of sharing about ourselves and learning about others, we had an interesting discussion about what Kindergarteners can do!  We made three lists, things that all Kindergartners can do (draw, play), things some Kindergarteners can do (read, ride a bike,...

The children had their first music class, we continued with our Morning Meeting singing and getting to know each other, and are growing more and more accustomed to school! In Writer’s Workshop we continued working on information books. It has been exciting to see children begin to add letters to their work, usually labeling items that they have drawn with their first letter of the item.  They are also beginning to add more details to their pictures.  As mentor texts we read Where Do...

Dear Kindergarten Families,   It’s getting chilly! The children had so much fun during our Simchat Torah celebrations on Monday, began learning about Fall in Hebrew, and conducted an exciting experiment in Science called “Sink or Float”. In our Morning Meetings, we sang songs that we know by heart at this point, and began to learn a new one called “You Gotta Sing”, replacing “sing” with our own verbs to move our bodies and make the song our own.   On Monday, we had almost a full day of Simchat Torah events. The children constructed their own sukkot out of...

They are writing about themselves, and what they want their teachers to know. As part of our coin study, Kindergarteners are creating a store. We are making some items to sell in our store, like mini crowns, paper airplanes, and notebooks. Students are discussing what jobs are needed in a store, how they should price the...
