Between Shavuot and Memorial Day

Hello Fourth Grade Families! Only three weeks left in the school year! June 15th is coming ever closer, but there’s still lots of learning and excitement going on at Hannah Senesh. This week, the fourth grade enjoyed one of the year’s highlights: our class trip to the Lower East Side Tenement Museum. Students learned a lot about immigration, life in NYC a century ago, and the idea of wanting versus needing something. We ate delicious pickles from The Pickle Guys, enjoyed a class-wide foot race in the park, and looked for evidence of old shops and Jewish life on the...

The Weather Warms Up!

Hello Fourth Grade Families! It’s hard to believe, but we’re down to the last five weeks of the school year! In fourth grade, though, that doesn’t mean the learning slows down. Students have been extra busy working on projects, preparing for the ERBs, enjoying food-based lessons in Hebrew, learning about Megillat Ruth in Judaic Studies, and getting ready to take their Israeli Restaurant Field Trip this Monday! How can you help your fourth grader prepare for the ERBs? Make sure they get a full night’s sleep the night before and eat a good breakfast before they come to school. While they...

Lag Ba’Omer and Kesher Day

Hello Fourth Grade Families! What a special week it’s been! After three days of hard work in class, the fourth grade enjoyed a day playing games at prospect park as part of our celebration of Lag Ba’Omer! Our students showed their spirit with team colors and cheers, and demonstrated their respect for the earth and others by keeping their spots in the park clean and litter-free. Today, we had a wonderful time with our visiting friends and relatives at Kesher Day. The fourth grade performed the Native American song ‘Hayo Ipsinaya’ for their visitor, and enjoyed learning and activities with...

A Note from Miriam

Dear Fourth Grade Families, I wanted to express my deep gratitude for your support and generosity as I close my time here at Senesh. Yesterday, the fourth graders showered me with love and presents, including a poster and an Amazon gift card from the 4th grade parents. I was blown away by your generosity and it will be immensely helpful as my husband and I start this new chapter. Through emails, in person, at conferences — each of you have taken an opportunity to wish me the best and express your happiness for me. It is community in every sense of...

Snow Day in Spring

Hello Fourth Grade Families! It has been an exciting week here in the fourth grade. On a more bittersweet note, we will also be saying goodbye to our general studies teacher Miriam as she goes on maternity leave. We hope you will stop by to wish her well. Shabbat Shalom! -The...
