Science

Science has been exploring the greenhouse effect and global warming these past few weeks. We watched a documentary about how global warming and how it changes the biomes we studied. Then we conducted an experiment to discovery how the greenhouse effect works. Students were outside with two thermometers, one inside a glass jar and one outside. They measured the temperature once a minute for 15 minutes. Then they wrote an official lab report in order to present their results. When we return from Passover break, we will start our last unit, the exploration of renewable and nonrenewable energy sources. We cannot wait to build wind turbines and solar cars.

Humanities

7th Graders had a busy week! Some highlights:

  • Four seventh-graders participated in the Aladdin production. We loved cheering for them!
  • 7th graders also participated in the Eurovision competition.
  • Lastly, ELA A and SS J worked with their buddy class to read a book, Drum Dream Girl, and write some poetry inspired by the book.

We also completed an on-demand essay and began exploring the Renaissance!

Judaic Studies

I am so proud of the 7th graders! They planned and led amazing model seders for the 5th & 6th graders. We began by studying the Rambam, who says the essential job of the leader of a seder is to elicit questions. 7th graders then planned seders keeping that guideline from the Rambam in mind. They chose themes, figured out what they would say to introduce each section, and led all of the songs and blessings. Everyone enjoyed the experience and had so much fun. Please ask your child about his/her seder!

Math
The 7th grade has worked their way through Probability and has been getting a refresher on Measures of Central Tendency such as Mean, Median, and Mode. They also learned about Dot Plots and Line Plots. After the break and their trip, they will learn about Mean Absolute Deviation and then focus on reviewing every concept they’ve learned in preparation for the ERBs. Enjoy your break, 7th grade!
