HUMANITIES
The 7th grade is finishing up our Holocaust and Human Behavior unit, in which the students are putting their final touches on projects ranging from illustrated timelines, fictionalized diary entries, and argumentative essays. I have been proud of the learning and growth students have shown during this unit.
This week, we are starting to read Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. We will be reading the play with an accompanying modern English translation, as well as watching selected scenes from the 1968 and 1996 film versions of the play to enrich the experience reading the play. I am looking forward to diving into the play with the students!

Dear Parents,
We are happy to embark on the last part of our learning journey! Last week, the students wrote, acted, and filmed short soap opera skits using daily dialogue that they learned in Hebrew.
This week, in honor of Israel’s Memorial Day, the students watched a few short animation movies about fallen soldiers and discussed the importance of this day in Israeli culture and its challenges.
In honor of Israel’s 73rd Independence Day, the students had an activity led by Habonim Dror and explored interesting Israeli artists. The students then prepared slide shows in which they presented the artist they studied.
I wish everyone a restful and healthy weekend,
Andreea

SCIENCE

Before the break students were investigating the impacts humans have on the climate. We learned about the different scientific data that has explained why the climate is changing. During the remote week of science students created a short slideshow to demonstrate how the world pandemic lockdown allowed parts of the earth to show cleaner air and water. They created a before and after picture demonstrating how the lack of human interaction impacts the environment.  Students then started to explore the concept of energy. We explored the difference between renewable and nonrenewable energy sources. In the science lab students designed and created water turbines. We tested these turbines under a stream of water to determine if the turbines can spin. When a turbine spins it is capable of power generation. In the coming weeks we will continue our exploration of different energy sources on earth.

MATH

The 7th Grade spent the remainder of March before the break reviewing all 7th Grade Math concepts. After the break, they moved onto 8th grade level extension work on The Real Number System, Linear Equations, and Proportional Relationships. In the coming weeks, they will be exploring other 8th grade level concepts such as Graphs of Lines, Slopes, y-intercepts, and the Pythagorean Theorem.

JUDAIC STUDIES
It’s been a powerful 2 weeks of learning with the 7th grade. I was moved and awed by the focus and thoughtfulness students brought to our Yom haShoah unit. In preparation
